The transgender pride flag has been

around for a long time, but not as long

as you might think!

It was designed by the American trans

woman Monica Helms back in 1999, which

means that it was created over 20 years

later than the first iteration of the

rainbow pride flag back in 1978.

Monica Helms described the flags

meaning as:

"the stripes at the top and bottom are

light blue, the traditional color for baby

boys. The stripes next to them are pink,

the traditional color for baby girls. The

stripe in the middle is white, for those

who are transitioning or consider

themselves having a neutral or undefined

gender."

The transgender pride flag is meant to

include anyone that doesn't conform to

the sex they were assigned at birth,

including those who do not identify as a

binary man or binary woman.

It's wild to think that the trans pride

flag has only existed for less than 25

years at the time of this article! If there

hadn't been the trans pride flag,

what do you think the design would- or

should- be instead?
