Eastern Youth Advisory Committee

At the Youth Project we believe it is essential

that youth have the power and decision-making

ability to determine the kinds of programs and

services that need to be offered. Who better to

know what youth need and want than youth! As

a result, we have maintained a Youth Board in

HRM, comprised solely of youth who make these

important decisions. The Youth Project is

growing

in the province and it’s time we had some rural

representation.

Announcing a call out to youth in Cape

Breton and Guysborough area to form a

second youth board to help navigate our

programs and special events.

The (NEW) Eastern Youth Board will work

with the management, staff and the Board

of Directors in Halifax to ensure that the

CB Youth Project runs and continues to

provide programs and services that meet

the needs of two spirit, lesbian, gay,

bisexual, transgender, non-binary and

questioning youth in Nova Scotia.

The Eastern Youth Board:

  • Will be made up of youth, 25 and under

with a vested interest in the 2SLGBT+

    community.

  • Members can be of any sexual

    orientation or gender identity.

  • Will have input on our special event

    budgets for dances, parties, retreats,

    whatever you decide!

  • Represent a variety of identities and

    experiences from diverse backgrounds

    and regions of our province,

    specifically throughout Cape Breton

    and the schools

    in Guysborough, Canso and Monastery

    area.

So whether you have participated for years

or you met us once in your classroom,

you can get involved with the Youth Board!

Why is there a Youth Board?

The Youth Project has always been very

youth-directed. It is important that youth

have control over what the CB YP does. That

way we can provide the kinds of

programs, activities and services that

youth need and want. The Youth Board

ensures that youth have a major role in our

decision making.

Why should I join the Eastern Youth Board?

We need your ideas, especially during the

pandemic when our regular events are no

longer feasible because of restrictions. We

need to know what you like, what you

hate, what you wish the CB YP would do

more of. There are lots of exciting new

projects going on, and more we could be

doing. We need members in order to make it

work. Besides the regular programs, the

Eastern Youth Board will help plan our big

annual events such as the prom and pride

week along with a newsletter that is

about to be launched. They also plan

special events such as guest speakers and

workshops.

If you are interested in taking on a

leadership role and being more active,

check it out. Being a Eastern Youth Board

member gives you opportunities to be a

leader,

provides opportunities for training and

self development, is a lot of fun and looks

great on a resume or college application!

What does it take to Join?

If you have some time to spare, some energy

and some great ideas that is all you need! If

you are afraid you don’t have the skills or

experience, don’t worry about it.

You can learn these things while you are on

the Eastern Youth Board. Just by being

involved with the Youth Project in the past,

you are already qualified. It’s not hard,

you can choose exactly what kinds of

things you want to work on, and sometimes

we order pizza. So… WHY NOT?
